About Kathleen Mae

“It is photography itself that creates the illusion of innocence. Its ironies of frozen narrative lend to its subjects an apparent unawareness that they will change or die. It is the future they are innocent of. Fifty years on we look at them with the godly knowledge of how they turned out after all – who they married, the date of their death – with no thought for who will one day be holding photographs of us.”

Born in Martinsburg, West Virginia and spending her childhood in sparsely-populated southern Utah, Kathleen Mae’s earliest memories are running through the desert, catching bugs, exploring construction sites, and enjoying sunsets on top of red cliffs. Always adventurous and independent, she developed a love for writing and photography at a very young age. After moving to the Washington, DC area as a pre-teen in 1995, she received her first camera and instantly became hooked on taking pictures of everything from her compliant pets, the bustling city streets, to friends who aspired to become models. She currently holds an A.A. in General Business and a B.A. in Digital Media Communications. When she’s not taking pictures at her studio in York/Royal Square or exploring the world, Kathleen can be found spending time with her family and three dogs on their mini farmstead in Thomasville, PA.
